Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To P[--] and D[--] / with the compliments of / Louise W. Watkins." Octavo (8 x 5.5 inches; 205 x 140 mm.). [6, blank], [2, title-leaf (copyright on verso)], 78, [1, limitation], [9, blank] pages. Samuel J. Woolf's lithographic portrait of Twain reproduced and affixed opposite the title-page. Publisher's white quarter-cloth over light blue paper-covered boards, printed paper label affixed to the spine; all edges of the text block rough-trimmed; plain endpapers. Spine barely askew; spine label tanned and chipped at the upper-right corner, narrowly avoiding any printed text; extremities very lightly worn; routine light soiling. Endpapers faintly discolored in the hinges from binding glue. Near fine. Mark Twain is the subject of the first study (pages 9-26). (#10237).
