First edition, limited to 152 numbered copies, of which this is number 145. Octavo (9.125 x 6.125 inches; 230 x 155 mm.). [8], 208, [2, blank] pages, limitation leaf inserted; bifolium with biographical information for Laurence Hutton laid in. Frontispiece with tissue guard, illustrated plate affixed to the verso of the fly-title. Publisher's half vellum over grayish blue paper-covered boards; spine lettered in gilt, gilt-stamped facsimile handwriting sample on the front board; page edges untrimmed; plain endpapers. Backstrip lightly soiled with a small interior bruise and a short closed tear to the crown; covers darkened with a few minor soiling spots and a long thin vertical tidemark near the front joint; edges very lightly worn. Offsetting to the title-page from the frontispiece. Very good. Printed at the De Vinne Press. A catalogue of the presentation copies in the Huttons' library, printed in a number to give a copy to each of the living authors included. Typically found inscribed by Eleanor Hutton, but this has only an ownership signature.
Includes a first printing of a Mark Twain letter on pages 66-67 as well as catalog entries for Mark Twain's (Burlesque) Autobiography and first Romance (page 29), The Celebrated Jumping Frog (page 129) and The Gilded Age (page 129), with their inscriptions transcribed. (#10202).
