Mark Twain [Samuel L. Clemens]. Following the Equator. A Journey around the World. Hartford: American Publishing Company; New York: Doubleday & McClure Co., 1897. First edition, variant with two imprints on the inserted title-page (also seen with just American Publishing Company; no priority, but Johnson preferred the single imprint). Publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered and elaborately stamped in gilt, front board stamped in gilt with a pictorial paper onlay; all edges of the text block trimmed; plain endpapers, flyleaves. Spine gently leaning; spine ends pushed; front board lightly rubbed; corners softly bumped; extremities a little worn with a very small tear to the cloth near the base of the spine.
