Mark Twain [Samuel L. Clemens], W. D. Howells and Others. The Niagara Book. A Complete Souvenir of Niagara Falls. Buffalo: Underhill and Nichols, 1893. First edition, third printing with a three-line copyright notice and 10 pages of ads (BAL states this may be a variant of the second printing). Octavo (6.875 x 4.625 inches; 175 x 117 mm.). [8], 225, [1, imprinted "Advertisements"], [10, ads] pages. Frontispiece, decorative chapter headings and 18 full-page and in-text half-tone illustrations by Harry Fenn. Wrapper issue with the publisher's side-stapled binding, wrappers printed in dark green and metallic gray; all edges of the text block trimmed. Spine slightly leaning; wrappers a little tanned, more so on the backstrip, and soiled in the margins, with a couple interior specks; spine ends chipped, missing only a little paper at the base of the spine but some fragments probably laid down; joints a little worn, with short tears at the ends and a couple bumps along the front; gray ink a little faded; short closed tear to the fore-edge of the rear wrapper (not affecting any text); corners softened with a couple small tears. Hinges probably mended; a couple very minor stains to the top edge of the text block. A good or better copy of a fragile book. Contains the first printing of Twain's "Extracts from Adam's Diary" (in the chapter "The First Authentic Mention of Niagara Falls"), as well as W. D. Howell's "Niagara, First and Last." Sold as a souvenir at Niagara Falls. BAL 3437. (#10106).
