Siegfried Kracauer. From Caligari to Hitler. A Psychological History of the German Film. [Princeton]: Princeton University Press, 1947. First edition. Octavo (9 x 5.875 inches; 229 x 150 mm.). xii, 361, [3, blank] pages. 16 double-sided illustrated plates, featuring 64 total images, inserted throughout. Publisher's black cloth, spine and front board ruled in silver, spine stamped in silver, outlining the lettering; top edge of the text block stained dark gray, others trimmed; plain endpapers. In the original dust jacket, priced $5.00. Spine very slightly askew; spine ends pushed; faint blemish in the backstrip stamping; bottom corners tapped; extremities with just a touch of wear. Top stain a little faded; text block sagging very slightly; small splash to the fore-edge of the text block; endpapers with some minor discoloration in the hinges from binding glue. Dust jacket rubbed; edge worn with some shallow chipping to the spine ends and fold edges; interior hole to the spine panel (about one-quarter inch by one half-inch) removing the Ca in Caligari; folds with some minor creasing; some spotty discoloration on the front panel and verso of the rear panel. Still, about very good overall. Viejo 16.3 ("considered a classic of post-war film studies"). (#10072).
