Mark Twain, Ambrose Bierce (contributors). Tom Hood's Comic Annual for 1873. London: Published at the Fun Office, [1872]. First edition. Octavo (8 x 6.5 inches; 204 x 166 mm.)). [3-10, preliminaries], [11], 12-110, [2, "Walnuts for Wisdom Teeth"], [10, blank] pages (presumably the original wrappers (not present) were included in the pagination, as no textual content appears to be missing). Full-page frontispiece and several other full-page and in-text illustrations throughout ("23 pages") by The Brothers Dalziel. Recent dark brown quarter-goatskin, spine lettered in gilt with five raised bands, over double-comb marbled-paper covered boards; plain endpapers, flyleaves. Spine just barely askew. Page edges lightly discolored; occasional fox mark or light marginal soiling; minor offsetting to pages [6-7] from something laid-in that's since been removed; leaf with pages [41] and 42 creased diagonally. Near fine. Contains the first printings of Mark Twain's "How I Escaped Being Killed in a Duel" and Ambrose Bierce's "How I Came to Like Dogs." BAL 3347 (Twain) and 1095 (Bierce). (#10083).
