Frontispiece and fifteen additional illustrated plates after Peter Newell throughout; decorative boarders by Francis I. Bennett, printed in green. Publisher's vegetable vellum, spine and front board lettered in gilt, front board stamped in gilt; top edge of the text block gilt, others rough trimmed; plain endpapers. In the original dust jacket. Spine just barely askew; front board lightly soiled; spine ends very lightly worn; corners barely bent. Endpapers very lightly discolored (binder's glue and offsetting from the jacket). Dust jacket split at the front panel fold with relatively recent tape repairs on the verso; a substantial chip to the along the upper edge (from the rear panel fold to the middle of the front panel); spine panel dulled; several minor scuffs and some light soiling; edges and folds lightly worn. A near fine copy in a good dust jacket. Two stories cited as a favorite of Mark Twain ("Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp" and "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves"). (#10205).
