Mark Twain Society of Chicago edition, cloth issue, limited to 550 copies, of which this is number M-49, one of the fifty copies allocated to Meine for presentation and signed by him on the colophon. Octavo (9.8125 x 6.75 inches; 250 x 170 mm.). 80, [1, blank], [1, colophon], [2, blank] pages (note: pages [1]-[2] are blank). Full-page frontispiece by R. H. Winkler. Publisher's light brown cloth, red leather labels, lettered and stamped in gilt, affixed to the front board and spine; top edge of the text block stained red (faded), others untrimmed; plain endpapers. Covers very lightly tanned along the backstrip and around the edges with a few very minor instances of spot-soiling; spine ends and corners tapped and a little worn with a touch of fraying; leather spine label lightly chipped along the left edge. A few trivial interior soil spots; "signed by the editor" written in pen on the front free endpaper. Near fine. Meine's bibliography includes 44 previous editions of this work.
