Jean Renoir (director); Joan Bennett, Robert Ryan and Charles Bickford (actors). The Woman on the Beach. Los Angeles: RKO Radio Pictures, 1946. Original country of origin poster for the theatrical release. One sheet (40.75 x 27.25 inches; 1035 x 690 mm.). Single sheet, restored and linen backed (with an overall size of 44.25 x 30.75 inches). Closed tear (less than two inches) across Joan Bennett's left cheek skillfully mended and laid down with only a minor seem still visible, pinholes minor fold separation also addressed, but minimal, if any artwork replaced (maybe a little in waves on the right side of the image). Margins of linen faintly foxed with some minor soiling. Presents as near fine. The last of Renoir's U. S. films, and the last he made at RKO. According to Renoir, it was "made at the request of Joan Bennett... At first the producer was to be Val Lewton... Then other projects interested him more and I practically became my own producer... I've never shot a film with so little written scenario and so much improvisation" (Jean Renoir, quoted in Jean Renoir by Ramond Durgnat, Berkeley: 1974. p. 261). (#10032).
