[Caroline of Brunswick]. Royal Investigation. Or, Authentic Documents Containing the Acquittal of H. R. H. the P--ss of W--s. London: J. F. Hughes, 1807. First edition. Twelvemo (6.875 x 4.125 inches; 175 x 105 mm.). x, [2, motto (verso blank)], 189, [1, ad] pages. Contemporary black half-calf over marbled paper-covered boards; spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt-lettered label; all edges of the text block sprinkled brown; plain endpapers. Boards rubbed; spine ends, joints and edges somewhat worn; front joint just starting at the top edge; corners bumped. Front hinge cracked but holding; top edge of the text block darkened; text foxed, mostly in the margins except in the first and last gatherings which are more heavily foxed. Very good. A defense against rumors surrounding Caroline's conduct following the "Delicate Investigation," not to be confused with "The Book" on the same subject, published and subsequently suppressed the same year (republished in 1813). (#10320).
