Octavo (8.5 x 5.75 inches; 215 x 140 mm.).  pages printed on laid paper, title-page (Tom Sawyer) printed in red and black. Frontispiece and six inserted illustrated plates, all but one with tissue guards, four captioned. Publisher's dark blue cloth, front board triple-ruled in gilt with the author's facsimile signature stamped in gilt; all edges of the text block trimmed; plain endpapers with a spine sample (also Tom Sawyer) laid down at the rear. Spine very slightly leaning; spine ends and corners slightly worn; covers very lightly rubbed; gilt rules with a couple tiny chips and a touch of soiling. Front hinge barely starting; bottom of the text bumped in the gutter margin; fifth leaf with a closed tear in the gutter margin, barely affecting the text. Very good. Published in 37 volumes, limited to 1024 sets. (#10141).
