First edition, fourth printing with a two-line copyright notice and additional notice, page [226] blank with no terminal advertisements. Octavo (6.625 x 4.5 inches; 170 x 113 mm.). [8], 225, [1, blank] pages. Frontispiece, decorative chapter headings and 18 full-page and in-text half-tone illustrations by Harry Fenn. Publisher's green cloth, spine and front board lettered in red and decoratively stamped in silver; all edges of the text block trimmed; plain endpapers, flyleaves. Covers very lightly rubbed with a hint of soiling; backstrip faintly tanned; spine ends and corners softly pushed with just a touch of wear. Hinges starting, the endpapers mostly cracked, but they're still secure; faint offsetting to the endpapers. Near fine. Contains the first printing of Twain's "Extracts from Adam's Diary" (in the chapter "The First Authentic Mention of Niagara Falls"), as well as W. D. Howell's "Niagara, First and Last."
